- RICE Jr., Joseph A. Joseph (Joe) Aaron Rice, Jr. born in Dallas, Texas on July 9, 1923 to Joseph Aaron Rice, Sr. and Anne Laurie Cooper Rice died in Austin, Texas on June 1, 2018. He was predeceased by his wife, Nancy Hart Trolinger Rice, his parents and a brother, David Warren Rice. Joseph served in the US Army Air Corps and Air Force in World War II and the Korean War. Of his six years of wartime military service, he always said that the best things to come out of it were meeting Nancy during training in the Valley and his education obtained under G.I. Bill. After completing a degree at Southern Methodist University, he had a long career at Texas Instruments in Dallas and Austin, with a break to study at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary where he received a Masters' degree. Throughout his 94 years of life he remained intellectually curious and knowledgeable about topics as wide-ranging as space exploration, robotics, politics, and human behavior. His cooking and baking skills developed late in life inspired three generations of new bakers. He and his much loved wife of 72 years shared life in Dallas, McKinney, and Austin, Texas where they raised three daughters. He is survived by his brother, Eugene Stanford Rice (Loretta) and sister, Mary Aileen Rice Belken; three daughters, Dr. Mary Lynn Rice-Lively (Bob Lively), Suzanne Hart Rice Napier (Tom Napier), and Florence Anne Rice, as well as four equally adored grandchildren (Dr. Daniel Ratcliff and Shannon Ratcliff, Sarah Lively Hill, Max Snyder and Jenny Mitsuda, and Utah Snyder and Poppy Coles) and four great-grandchildren (Jonathan Beckett (Beck) Ratcliff, Gavin Elliot Ratcliff, Henry Fontaine Hill, and Olympia Hart Snyder.) The family wishes to thank Yoshie Takeuchi, Kindred Hospice, and the staff at Southpark Meadows Assisted Living and Memory Care for their attentive care of our father. In lieu of flowers, we request that friends and family honor his memory by making a gift to .
