Notes - From the narration of Fred L. Trullinger at the Trullinger family reunion, August 5, 1956: "Nathan and Frances took up a donation land claim on Milk Creek, near what is now Union Mills. They built a cabin, and then the three older boys with Grandfather left for California where gold had been discovered. Grandfather was 47 years old when he left for the mines, too old a man to stand the rough work of panning gold, so he soon gave up and returned home. The three boys continued their work for two years, returning home each with a small fortune, as measured in those days.
. . . Nathan continued to live on his donation land claim, doing carpenter work and cabinet making. He was a fine mechanic and built many houses in Clackamas County, as the settlers moved into this new country. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he and his father hunted together between preaching trips. One time, on coming in from a hunting trip, they hung a pair of deer horns in the crotch of a tree and left them there, Grandfather saying at the time that when he died, he like to be buried under the shade of this tree, and that is where he and Nathan were both buried. Cousin Ike took me up on the hill back of the old house where Nathan lived and showed me the spot. The old tree, at that time, had two points of the old buck horns still sticking out of the body of the tree.
