    • Dan Trollinger was born in Asheville, NC. When he was 2 years old the family moved to Louisville, KY where he grew up. Both he and his two brothers carried newspapers all during their junior and senior high school years. He later worked as the District Circulation Manager for the Louisville Courier-Journal in Hopkinsville, Ky. After graduating from DuPont Manual High School, he attended Taylor University, Upland, IN for one year, then transferred to the University of Louisville.
In 1948 Dan enlisted in the 138th Field Artillery Group, Kentucky Army National Guard. He was commissioned as 2nd Lt. in 1952, and attended the Field Artillery Battery Officer Course, at the Artillery School, Fort Sill, Oklahoma in 1952-53. In 1954 he was promoted to Captain, and assigned as Battery Commander, Battery B, 138th Field Artillery. He was later assigned to Staff Headquarters, XXIII Corps Artillery, as Asst. S3, - Training. He resigned from the National Guard in 1962.
Dan was member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church, in Louisville, from childhood until he and his family moved in 1970. At Crescent Hill he taught Sunday school and served several years on the Board of Deacons.
Dan went to work for the General Electric Company, Appliance Park in 1953 as an Engineering Assistant in the Metallurgy and Ceramics Laboratory, Major Appliance Laboratories. In 1961 he was assigned as a Metallurgist. While working in Metallurgy, Dan continued to pursue his college work in Chemistry at the University College, University of Louisville. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry degree in 1969. His metallurgical work was primarily in metallography. He presented several papers on metallography to local technical societies, and won three awards for excellence for some of his Photomicrgraphs shown at both the American Society for Metals, and the American Society for Testing and Materials. He also was selected to present a paper at a General Electric Research Laboratory Symposium in Schenectady, NY. Dan was a member of the Handbook Editorial Committee, American Society for Metals, for the 8th Edition, vol. 7, of the Metals Handbook, 1972.
In 1970, Dan and his family moved to the new town planned community of Columbia, MD where General Electric was building Appliance Park-East. He was promoted to Manager, Materials Application Laboratory at the new plant. In this position, Dan was responsible for all Laboratory services to all plant Finishing Systems (Paint, Electroplating, and Porcelain Enamel), as well as metallurgical services to the Fabrication Department. He provided applicable Laboratory services to the Quality Control Department, and the Engineering Department. Dan was a member of the American Society for Metals, and the Porcelain Enamel Institute.
For several years Dan taught a Basic Metallurgy Course at Catonsville Community College. He was contracted through the College to teach the course for machinist apprentices at several industrial companies such as Black and Decker, Ward Machinery, Worthington Industries, and the U.S. Coast Guard at the Curtis Bay Ship Yard in Baltimore.
In Columbia, Dan and the family first joined the Columbia Baptist Fellowship, a new church being organized by the Baptist Home Mission Board. Then, to provide a more adequate Christian education environment for the family, they joined the First Presbyterian Church of Howard County. Both Dan and Elizabeth were elected as Elders (not at the same time). They served several years in various capacities on committees and organizations within the life of the congregation.
When General Electric ceased manufacturing operations and closed the Columbia operations, in 1990, Dan accepted early retirement. He then accepted a part-time position as Chemical Laboratory Manager, and Chemical Hygiene Officer for Western Maryland College, Westminster, MD. In 1998 Dan retired from that position.
