    • Oliphant, Douglas 78 Sept. 05, 1935 May 21, 2014 A beloved husband, dad and friend, Norman Douglas "Doug" Oliphant lived a life filled with passion, joy, generosity and unbridled love for his family and the Lord Jesus Christ. Always quick with a warm smile and kind word, Doug loved deeply and was deeply loved by his wife, three children, four grandchildren and vast circle of family and friends. Doug, 78, passed into glory May 21, 2014, after a brave and long fought battle with prostate cancer. His beautiful wife of 54 years, Barbara, and loved ones, were with him when he stepped into heaven. Doug Oliphant loved the city of Oswego! Born Sept. 5, 1935, in Portland, to Norman R. and Mary Elizabeth Trullinger Oliphant, Doug was a direct descendent of John Corse Trullinger, who purchased the original town site of Oswego, Durham Mill and filed the first plot with Clackamas County. For over 45 years, Doug humbly served the city he loved. In March, he was honored the 2014 Oswego Lifetime Achievement Award. Doug dedicated countless hours to the Chamber of Commerce, Lakewood Center for the Arts, Lake Corp, Lake Grove Affordable Housing, LO Muni Golf Course and Donate Life N.W. He also delighted serving the citizens of the Adult Community Center. A lasting gift to Oswego was inspired 25 years ago during his trip to Victoria, B.C. Noticing the multitude of floral hanging baskets that graced the city, Doug determined to start the program in Oswego. Wildly successful, the basket campaign continues and adopted by thousands of communities across the nation. Doug was a leader in every facet of his life. 60 years ago, he attended Seattle's Lakeside Boy's High School and Hoover High in San Diego. He continued to OSU and graduated from San Diego State. Anxious for leadership responsibilities, Doug enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1959. He served six years as an officer and retired a 1st Lt. Medical Service Corps with one commendation. After marrying his sweetheart, Barbara Tibbett, they moved to the Northwest where their three children were born. Doug followed the footsteps of his father and grandfather and worked as VP and general sales manager for the family business, The Chas. H. Lilly Company. He continued to Pacific Lithograph, and in 1992, he started his own company, SeedPrint, in upstate New York. Honesty, excellence, staff and customer care was his heartbeat. In 2008, Doug retired, sold Seedprint to Excelsior Printing and enjoyed gardening with his beautiful wife, family time and golfing with his buddies! Never afraid of a challenge and persistent to beautify communities, Doug successfully lobbied for a "National Garden Week" that was signed into law by Senator Mark Hatfield and President Ronald Regan. A member of Lake Grove Presbyterian Church, Doug's joy and passion for the Lord impacted many. Even in his final months, he inspired many with his trust in God. Like a true Scotsman, he never gave up and with his friend, Vince Tylman, began "Your Everyday Cross Ministries." Doug gave God all the credit for the delicate handmade wood cross necklaces and their impact around the world. Tearfully, he once said, "Sometimes, I thank God for my cancer. Out of my hardship, God started this ministry. I'm so blessed. Praise the Lord!" All who knew him will remember his smile, laughter, intentionality in relationships and faith. Doug was preceded in death by his beloved son, David Douglas (1962 - 2010). He is survived by his adoring wife, Barbara Oliphant; daughter, Elizabeth "Beth" Oliphant Hoover (Mark); son, Duncan Oliphant (Melissa); brother, Richard Oliphant (Patricia), sister-in-law, Joyce Thornton; daughter-in-law, Shelly Oliphant; grandchildren, Grace, Samuel, Olivia and Isla; honorary granddaughter, Melissa Venuti; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. The Oliphant's would like to thank Bristol Hospice, Homewell Seniorcare and staff at OHSU Knight Cancer Institute. Doug was laid to rest in Lake Oswego Pioneer Cemetery May 29, 2014. A celebration of his life is planned for 3 p.m. Fri day, June 13, 2014, at Lake Grove Presbyterian Church.

Thanks Dave for sending the information and family picture. You certainly have a beautiful family.

I have a ton of stuff to share with you and our relative in the east, I forget his name. Please send his name and email address and, if you like, I will share this stuff with both of you at the same time. This will include material from the Trullinger family bible.

Please note that I have attached a family picture take several years ago. There have been two changes to the family since this picture was taken. Our son David, third from left in the back row, one of Oregon's top bicycle racers, died from sudden death syndrome after a bicycle race. Our son Duncan(still racing) and his wife Melissa, back row right, have a new daughter(Isla).

Also included are two additional pictures - brother Richard and his wife Patricia(they have two daughters and 3 grandchildren) and, a picture of Fred Trullinger(cousin) standing next to me. Fred and his wife Susan have two sons. Fred and his sister Susan(one daughter) live in Portland.

I have to scan a lot of pages before I can send you the information that might help you in you quest for family information.

      Best of all things,
