- JAMES ALBERT RASMUSSEN / IRIS MARIE (HEDERER) RASMUSSEN
Jim was born October 24, 1925 to Albert James and B. Eunice (Drollinger) Rasmussen in Marshfield, Wisconsin. He was educated in the Marshfield schools and graduated from Marshfield Senior High in 1943 at which time he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He married Iris Marie Hederer on June 12, 1945. Jim was discharged at the end of World War II in November 1945. He then attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in the School of Engineering. After two years, he transferred and graduated from the Wisconsin Electronics Institute of Madison, Wisconsin. The couple and their two year old son, James Richard, moved back to Marshfield in June of 1950 where he began Rasmussen Electronics specializing in television service. In 1975 he was employed by the Marshfield Clinic as a Bio-medical electronics technician. He retired from that position in 1988. His lifelong hobbies include radio control models, photography, and music. He has been the director of the Marshfield Civic Band since 1963 and retained this position until 2002. He has the distinction of holding this position for 40 years, a longer time than any of his predecessors. He is a member of the Mid-State Aeroguidance Club, American Legion, and a past member of the Elks club, the Jaycees, and the BETA Bio-Medical organization of Wisconsin.
Family of Jim and Iris:
James Richard Rasmussen, born March 29, 1948, was educated in the Marshfield schools and the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. He graduated with a B.A. in music education. Jim married Connie Jean Mengert on August 17, 1970. After graduation he taught instrumental music in the Neillsville school system for 9 years. They then moved to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where he is employed at the music and instrument division of the Schmitt Music Company of Eau Claire. Jim and Connie have two children, Michael John, born September 14, 1971, and Jenny Rebecca, born October 11, 1972.
Richard (Rick) John Rasmussen born January 30, 1953. He was educated in the Marshfield Schools and the Way International College of Rome City, Indiana. Married Arlene Ann Zulke, April 2, 1993. Rick and family are living in Eau Claire, WI where he is employed with the United Health Care. He works for the Americhoice Division which processes Medicare and Medicade claims. Rick and Arlene have two children. Hilary Ann, born June 7, 1986, and Emily Ann, born April 28, 1992. Emily died at age 8 from Leukemia, September 20, 2000.
Both Jim and Rick have carried on the musical tradition of the family. Jim is a saxophonist, and Rick is a percussionist. Both have played in the Marshfield Civic band, and along with their dad, have played with local dance bands such as the Lynn Winch orchestra. Rick was a member of a local country group, the Chaparrals, which had the honor of performing at Diamond Lil's in Disneyworld, Florida. Both sons joined their mother and dad by adding their musical talents to the "pit orchestras" for many musicals presented at Marshfield Senior High School, and the University of Wisconsin, Wood County.
Jim and Iris have been blessed with two successful sons, Jim and Rick, two wonderful daughters-in-law, Connie and Arlene, four grandchildren, Mike, Jenny, Hilary, and Emily, one grandson-in-law, Mike (Westphal), one granddaughter-in-law, Lori (Rasmussen), and five great-grandsons, Shawn and Jacob (Westphal), and Jackson, Carson, and Kaden (Rasmussen)
Hilary Rasmussen graduated from North High School in Eau Claire, and is presently enrolled at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire campus, majoring in Biology.
