Notes - UNCLE BILL WAS A DREAM COME TRUE FOR US KIDS. WHEN WE WERE VERY YOUNG WE'D GO TO HIS HOUSE FOR A VISIT AND ALL SIX OF HIS KIDS WOULD BE WAITING TO GO HAVE FUN, WE USE TO GET HIS COON DOGS ALL EXCITED SO THEY'D START HOWLING LIKE THEY HAD A COON UP A TREE, OTHER TIMES UNCLE BILL WOULD TAKE US FOR A RIDE IN HIS FLAT BED TRUCK, OF COURSE AFTER WE BEGGED ENOUGH THAT IS, MOST OF THE TIME I REMEMBER HIM SITTING IN HIS RECLINER IN FRONTROOM TALKING TO MY DAD, HIS BROTHER, ONCE IN A WHILE HE'D SEND US TO PICK BLACKBERRIES, TELL US TO STAY OFF THE TRAIN TRACKS, THE OLD PLACE HAS BURNED DOWN NOW AND NEVER REBUILT. IN WINTER WE'D EAT HOMEMADE ICE CREAM AROUND THE WOOD STOVE IN THE LIVING ROOM. UNCLE BILL WASN'T AS TALL AS MY DAD BUT HE HAD A SPARKLE IN HIS EYES THAT YOU JUST KNEW HE WAS THINKING UP SOMETHING TO TEASE US KIDS ABOUT. HE WAS A HARD WORKING MAN WHO KNEW THE VALUE OF FAMILY, HOME AND DUTY . HE HAULED COAL IN WINTER TO PEOPLE WHO NEEDED IT, I CAN STILL SEE HIM COVERED IN COAL SOOT FROM HEAD TO TOE. WISH I COULD GO BACK TO SOME OF THOSE DAYS!

According to his half brother, William Lee "Buck" Drollinger during our telephone conversation of 6 Jul 2008, Russell got into a bottle of strychnine tablets that his father had setting on his dresser (I believe he said dresser) for use around the farm and ate them, tragically killing himself. "Buck" told me they did not have any other children and that his father divorced Bernice sometime around 1933 or 1934. "Buck" also thought her maiden name was 'Cox'.
