    • William V. C. Brown Jr. "Bill" departed this life March 21, 2006. He is survived by his wife, Iris; daughter, Dee Wilburn, of Ashland; and a brother, Jack, of Greensboro, N.C. Bill was a railroad supervisor for 37 years, but one of his proudest achievements was his participation in the invasion of France on Omaha Beach during WWII on D-Day. He was a Regimental Sargeant Major, receiving many awards for valor, including the Bronze Star. He will be truly missed by his family friends and comrades. The family will receive friends at the Browns' residence in Ashland on Thursday between 6 and 8:30 p.m. A memorial service with military honors will be held 1 p.m. Friday in the Virginia Veteran's Cemetery Chapel in Amelia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hanover Humane Society or Parkinson's Foundation.
