Hewitt, 81, 612 W. 12th St., died at 2:22 a.m. Saturday in Marion General Hospital. Born in Kokomo to Oren F. and Goldie M. (Drollinger) Hewitt, he had lived in Grant County most of his life. He retired from Crystal Laundry, formerly of Jonesboro, in 1985 after 32 years. He married Barbara Hickman in 1948. She died in 1992. He married Virginia Wright in 1992. She died in 2003. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific Theatre. He was a life member of American Legion Post 95, Jonesboro. He served as adjutant for nine years and also served as post commander for two years. He was also district vice commander for two years. He was treasurer of the Crystal Laundry Credit Union in Jonesboro. He was plant superintendent of Coverall Rental, Fairmount Branch Plant. He was a gardener at Grant Memorial Park cemetery from 1989 to 1990. He was a member of Rainbow Hills Baptist Church, San Antonio. He had lived in San Antonio for 11 years, moving back to Indiana 10 months ago. He enjoyed woodworking and playing guitar. He was a loving father and grandfather. Survivors include two daughters, Gail (Michael) McVay and Melinda Kaye (Jeff) Poling, Fort Wayne; a stepdaughter, Vickie (Gary) Morgan, San Antonio; a brother, Charles W. (Betty), Gas City; a sister, Jackie (Marion) Wolf, Jonesboro; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, with the Rev. Howard Fights officiating. Burial, with full military honors, is in Grant Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
