Florence Alwilda Little was born January 4, 1859, near Lanark, Ill., and came to the Red Oak Grove community with her family six years later. She was the third daughter of Joseph and Mary Little. The family homesteaded just north and west of what is now Wald, and lived in that vicinity for many years. Miss Little's father, mother and three sisters, Mrs. Harriett Carl, Mrs. Nancy Parry and Mrs. Martha Day preceded her in death. The living brothers and sisters who mourn her passing are: Mrs. Alford S. Safley of Tipton; Mrs. Charles E. Yule, of Brookings, South Dakota; W. H. Little and Fred Little of Clinton; and A. M. Little of Gold Stirke, Utah. Besides these are twenty-two nieces and nephews and a host of friends and former scholars, who mourn her loss.
Miss Little's life was one of service to others. Early in life she united with the Red Oak Grove Methodist church. Forty years of teaching in the community brought under her supervision and care a legion of students who profited by her patient endeavor to fit them for useful lives. Many of her nieces and nephews were her scholars and mourn one who unselfishly did all she could to further their welfare in later life.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'cock from the Red Oak Grove church with burial at the Red Oak Grove cemetery.
