Dowd was a veteran of World War II and the Korean war and was awarded 11 medals during his 21 years of military service. He retired March 30 at Fort Sheridan. Surviving are his widow, Janet; a son, Maxim Jr.; and two daughters, Mrs. Jeanne Drollinger, and Kathleen.
