Gist - Madison Daily Leader - (May/8/2008) Obituaries Neva (Way) Gist (Obit photo of Neva attached to this website) 05/07/2008 Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sat., May 10, for Neva E. Gist, 109,Madison, who died on May 7, 2008, at the Golden Living Center. TheRev. Dr. Marilyn Spurrell will officiate in Madison United MethodistChurch, and burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. She was the oldest resident of South Dakota. Visitation begins at noon Friday, with the family present from 6-8p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the Ellsworth FuneralHome. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the churchon Saturday. Neva Trullinger was born on April 26, 1899, at Maryville, Mo., toJames and Sarah Jane (Shell) Trullinger. She was raised in ruralMissouri and married Russell Way on Dec. 31, 1919, at Murdo. Shetaught school in Nebraska and South Dakota. They moved to Madison in1945 and then lived in Sioux Falls for a few years. She was employedfor many years at the Ben Franklin Store in Madison. Her husband diedin 1959. She married Ernest Gist in 1971 at Madison. She retired in 1972; hedied in 1976. She was a member of United Methodist Church, Joy Circle and World WarI Auxiliary. She played the piano and accompanied many soloists inLake Preston, Hetland and Arlington. Survivors include three daughters, Mary Jane Todd of Madison, JoyceRedmond of Huachuca City, Ariz., and Kathleen Binder of Montgomery,Ill.; one stepson, Jack (Sylvia) Gist of Lamberton, Minn.; onestepson-in-law, John Hamilton of Iowa; six grandchildren; eightgreat-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; threegrandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers; five sisters; andone stepdaughter, Jean Hamilton.
