Claire Trullinger, 86, of Enterprise died Feb. 10, 2009, in Oregon City.
Claire was born Oct. 17, 1922, in the Martinot family home on South End Road in Oregon City to Albert H. Sheer and Louise Martinot Sheer.
She was a 1940 graduate of Oregon City High School and studied nursing at Providence Hospital before turning to work caring for elderly in their homes.
During WWII, Claire worked in an airplane factory in Portland and served in the WAVE Reserves.
After the war, she was an office-worker for Montgomery Ward and then went to work for Clackamas County Courthouse in Oregon City.
She married Jim Trullinger in May 1955 and was a homemaker for four years before she and Jim moved to Enterprise where they purchased the Crystal Market grocery store in 1959.
After operating the market for a number of years, the couple opened the Sears store in Enterprise. They sold the store in 1979. Claire then opened Claire's Jewelry in the Alpine Mall in Enterprise, keeping it open until 1995 when health issued forced her to retire.
Claire was active in the Enterprise Lady Lions Club for several years. She was always available for volunteer work and helped numerous people with in-home care and whatever else they needed.
Claire was happiest serving others and loved to cook huge dinners during the holidays to which she invited many friends, family and strangers. The strangers often became friends. Many of her friends remember her hospitality, grace and culinary skills.
She was an active member of the Enterprise Christian Church and "had a very strong love for the Lord and all the Lord's beloved children," family said.
"She leaves behind many loving friends and family who have been inspired by her unwavering faith in our Lord Jesus Christ," family members said.
She is survived by her son, Tom Trullinger of Enterprise; daughter Terry Cassell of Oregon City; four grandchildren, Monica Blasch of Lebanon, Stephanie Trullinger of Enterprise, Kasey Cassell of Oregon City, and Kory Cassell of Oregon City; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Eola Ellyes of Oregon City; brothers, Hubert Scheer of Cave Junction, Ted Scheer of Canby and Gene Scheer of Merlin.
Her parents and one brother, Henry Scheer, who died four days before Claire on Feb. 6, 2009, preceded Claire in death.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Feb. 28 at Enterprise Christian Church with a dinner following at Community Connection.
As an alternative to flowers, the family asks donations be made to Community Connection in Claire's name.
