    • Mrs. Victoria Byrnes Cecil, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. John Wesley Byrnes, was born in Wise county 85 years ago, and when a small child moved to Mechanicsburg, Bland county.

At an early age she was converted and joined the Methodist church at Byrnes Chapel; the land for which church was given by her grandfather.

She married John S. Cecil, of Dublin, thereby uniting two of the pioneer families of Southwest Virginia.

Mrs. Cecil is survived by two sons, Robert S. and W. Byrnes, both of Dublin; her husband having died February 11, 1937.

She was devoted to her family and steadfastly, held in mind those principles and purposes of an ideal Christian home.

She was a charter member of the missionary society of the Dublin Methodist church and was greatly interested in all the various phases of church work. Her love for God and His cause was beautifully manifested. Mrs. Cecil constantly added to her knowledge by much reading, especially the magazines and church periodicals, and the Bible was her handbook and daily companion. She possessed great faith and indomitable spirit. Hers was a simple life, unassuming and modest, yet strong and decisive on all questions of right.

She had been ill for five months but critically ill for two months before her death. Though she rallied at times, she gradually grew worse until six o'clock on the morning of Saturday, January 22, 1944, her spirit took its flight. Thus, a true soul fell asleep to awake in the morning of a brighter day.

The impressive funeral services were conducted by her pastor, the Rev. T. P. Carriger, in the Dublin Methodist church and burial was in the Dublin cemetery beside her husband.

The floral tributes were exquisitely beautiful testifying to the love and thoughts of countless friends. A great and good woman has
fallen asleep but she lives on in the memory of loved ones and in every life she touched.
