- Raymond Owen Smith, 74, of Orem, Utah passed away surrounded by his loving wife, children, and grandchildren on the evening of Tuesday, August 1st, 2023 due to complications arising from kidney failure.
He was born November 11, 1948 to Owen Leroy Smith and Myrle Davis in Salt Lake City, Utah where he was raised as the youngest of 3 children, having 2 older sisters. Through high school he participated in ROTC, drama, and music and graduated from Highland High School in 1967. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Australia West Mission, and attended the University of Utah where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business. He sang and performed with Dave Smoot as ?The Countrymen? to put himself through school. He met the love of his life, Linda, through her brother and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 8, 1972. He dedicated his life to providing for his family and living the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
His passions in life included singing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir from 1980-1985, singing and playing the guitar, hunting, fishing. Most recently his greatest joy was spending time with family and serving a mission at the Church History Library in Salt Lake City.
Through his employment and musical talents Ray touched many lives in many places, most recently serving 25 years with State Farm Insurance in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Gunnison, Utah and Provo, Utah. He brought joy to everyone he met with his beautiful baritone voice and his witty sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Myrle Smith and brother-in-law J. Kent Hyde, and survived by his sisters, Dianne Hyde and Marjorie (Douglas) Dorton. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Linda, his 5 children, Rebecca (Dave) Bornholdt, Melissa (Sean) Oldfield, Benjamin Smith, Jacob (Lisa) Smith, and Jennilyn (Andrew) Hall, and his 16 grandchildren: Ashlee, Jameson, Seth, Aaron, Madison, Kieran, Brandon, Nathan, Riley, Rhyanna, Christine, Erica, Robert, Alex, Ryan, and Lea.
We are grateful for the knowledge that families are forever, for the peace and knowledge of the Gospel of our Savior Jesus Christ, and knowing he is in loving arms and experiencing great reunions.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 8th, at 11:00 am, at the Lakeview 7th Ward located at 155 West 1600 South, Orem, Utah, where Viewings will be held Monday, August 7th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and prior to the service on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Interment in Lakeview Memorial Cemetery, 1640 Lakeview Drive, Bountiful, Utah.
