    • Gerald "Jerry" R. Leach

      Evansville, Ind.

      Gerald "Jerry" Leach, 79, of Evansville, passed away at 12:30 AM on Thursday, December 29, 2016, at Deaconess Hospital, surrounded by loving family members.

      He was born October 9, 1937, to the late William W. and Margaret Leach. Jerry graduated from Trinity Lutheran Grade School, attended Mt. Vernon High School, where he played basketball and football, and graduated in 1955 from Evansville Central High School, where he played football and was awarded All-City and All-State honors. He met his first wife, Roma, at University of Evansville, where he played football and graduated in 1967. He retired from Bristol-Meyers in 1992. Jerry was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served as Treasurer, President, and a member of the school board. He was a long-time supporter of University of Evansville, where he was one of the cofounders of the Football "100" Club, serving as President. He was "color commentator" with Kenny Wallace of WIKY, broadcasting excerpts from the UE football games in the 1970s. He also served as President of the PAC (Purple Aces Club) for several terms. He served as a member of the Athletic Committee on the UE Alumni Board, and participated in the transition from Division II to Division I sports, pre- and post- the 1977 Plane Crash. During his career and active civic life, he was named by the Evansville Courier & Press as one of the "Movers & Shakers" in Evansville. He was involved in Operation City Beautiful, SERTOMA, and Central Turners Athletic Club. He was a member of Oak Meadow Country Club where he played golf with many of his friends.

      Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother-in-law, Kenny Clements.

      Jerry is survived by his loving wife and care-giver, Gloria Leach; his children, Cheryl and Alan Bremer, Laureen and Tracey Baggett, of Evansville, and Karen and Brad Leaf of San Diego; his grandchildren, Nelson and Jamie Bremer, Alexandra and Vermicki Watts, Grace and Landon Vos, and Clara Baggett, all of Evansville, and Trent, Troy, Talia, and T.J. Leaf of San Diego; and one great-grandchild, LilliAnn Watts; sisters, Ruth (Gerald) Trautvetter, Pat (Larry) Bryant, Judy Clements, and Phyllis (Mike) Melton; an uncle, Jack Krietemeyer; and many nieces and nephews; and stepchildren, Jody Riggs of Houma, LA, Dax Riggs of Lafayette, LA, and Devin Blair of Evansville, IN; and the son he never had," his fur- kid" Andy.

      Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1000 West Illinois St., Evansville, IN 47710 with Pastor Martin Noland officiating. Burial will be held at Lutheran Cemetery in Evansville.

      Friends and family may visit from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, January 2, 2017 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711 and again from 10:00AM until 11:00AM until service time at the church on Tuesday.

      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Evansville.
