  	Portsmouth - Julian Dees Beacham Sr., 93, passed away on June 13, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Trollinger Beacham, parents Joshua Thomas Beacham Sr. and Rachel Robbins Beacham; sister Mildred Calloway, brothers Joshua and Oscar and son, Kenneth Beacham. Survivors include sons J.D. Beacham, Jr. (Malinda), Tommy Beacham (Bill), Gary Beacham (Shirley); daughters JoAnn Smith (Chuck) and Tammie Polson; eight grandchildren - Mark & Kevin Beacham, Brian & Jason Smith, Robert & Daniel Polson, Stephanie Shifflett, and Jessica Beacham. He is also survived by six great grandchildren (and one on the way), Keller, Logan, Jake, Caroline, Jackson, Ellie Jane and extended family and friends. In addition, he is survived by his dear close friend Virginia Parker. Julian, born in Bath, NC, joined the Navy in 1942 and served our country throughout World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He retired as a Chief Radioman in 1967. Following his retirement from active duty, he worked at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in the Communications Center until his retirement in 1986. After retiring, he continued his service to our country for the next 20 plus years by volunteering with REVIMS in the Social Work Department at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. Julian was also a member and Past Master of Portsmouth 100 Masonic Lodge (AF&AM) and a member of West Park Church of Christ. The family would like to acknowledge the outstanding care he received at home as his health began to fail. Our sister, Tammie, has been a blessing providing around the clock care and support for him. In addition, the family extends sincere thanks to friends Alex and Peggy for the help and support they also provided. Services will be held at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd, at 1 PM on Saturday, June 17, officiated by Mr. Keith Lewis. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6-8 PM.
