Main St., passed away on July 6, 2010 at Hospice Home of Alamance. A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Mr. Johnnie Chavis and Etta Foust Chavis, both deceased, and the husband of Myrtle Baldwin, also deceased. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Holbert Foust, Robert Chavis and Larry "LC" Chavis; two sisters, Ruth Pressley and Callie Trollinger. He is survived by three sons, John Lee Chavis Jr. (Genella), Gary Lewis Chavis and Michael Wayne Chavis, all of Burlington; five daughters, Rita Chavis, Phyllis Chavis, Valeria Tinnin (Speedy), LaDerdre Hinton and Denise King Harvey, all of Burlington; two sisters, Mildred Tate of Haw River, Elsie Stamp of Burlington; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A service will be held on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at 3 p.m. at Morningstar Baptist Church with Bishop Terry L. Young officiating. Burial to follow in Alamance Memorial Park next to his wife. Viewing and visitation with the family will be held 30 minutes prior to the funeral service at the church and at all other times at the home. Public viewing will be held Saturday, July10, 2010 from 1 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Alamance Funeral Service in entrusted with arrangements.
