Notes - Intoxicated Driver Crashes Through End of Road Barrier and Into Lake Livingston, SCENIC LOOP, August 4, 2012 - Shortly before 7 am on August 4, 2012, a gray Toyota Tacoma Charles Ryan Fears, 23, of Livingston, was south-bound on FM-2457 near Scenic Loop. Fears was traveling at a high rate of speed when he apparently realized that he was quickly running out of pavement as he approached end of FM-2457. Fears locked up his brakes and slid for nearly 100 yards before crashing through the end of road barrier and into Lake Livingston. Deputy Troy Binford with the Polk County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the scene along with Trooper Kevin Burman with the Texas Highway Patrol. Burman arrived and conducted a field sobriety test on Fears and placed Fears under arrest for driving while intoxicated. Fears' passenger, 20 year old Lyle Allen Meadows, of Livingston, was also placed under arrest for public intoxication. Additionally, both Fears and Meadows were cited by Trooper Burman for littering as cans of Budweiser beer were ejected from their truck into Lake Livingston. A rollback wrecker from Ken's Towing recovered the vehicle from the lake and it will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston.
