    Killed His Son-in-Law
    Shelbyville, Tenn., April 6. J. W. Trollinger, a leading citizen, shot and instantly killed his son-in-law, Wm. Posey, Thursday evening. Posey had deserted his wife, and Trollinger had forbidden him the house. Posey called Thursday evening and a quarrel ensued, as above stated.

    • He is clearly identified as "Jno. W. Trollinger" in the 1880 Census. 'Jno.' is the common abbreviation for Jonathan and as serves as strong evidence that his birth name most likely was Jonathan and that he went by 'John' which is a common nickname for Jonathan.

      John and Rachiel may have had a son named Daniel Trolinger/Trollinger who may have been born 1858. (Ref his record at Cox-Martin Family Tree owned by oldtimersgal at Ancestry.com/Family Trees.

      John W. Trolinger appears on Company Muster in and Descriptive Roll of A Company 4th Tenn Mounted Infantry dated 19 August 1864. Where born Bedford county Tenn, age 39 years, occupation shoemaker, where enlisted Shelbyville for one year. Eyes hazel, hair dark, complexion dark, height 5 ft 11 in. Discharged from 18 June 1865 at Lebanon Tenn by reason of Physical disability on surgeons certificate by reason of chronic rheumatism reason not stated, by order of Gen Thomas.

      Organized at Camp Garber, near Flat Lick, Ky., November, 1861, to March, 1862. Attached to 25th Brigade, 7th Division, Army of the Ohio, to October, 1862. 1st Brigade, District of West Virginia, Dept. of the Ohio, to November, 1862.
      SERVICE.-Cumberland Gap Campaign March 28-June 18, 1862. Moved to Cumberland Ford April. Skirmishes at Big Creek Gap June 11-12 and 15. Occupation of Cumberland Gap June 18 to September 17. Expedition to Pine Mountain September 6-10. Big Creek Gap September 7. Evacuation of Cumberland Gap and retreat to Greenupsburg, Ky., September 17-October 3. At Gallipolis, Ohio, and operations in Kanawha Valley, W. Va., till November. Designation of Regiment changed to 1st Tennessee Cavalry November 1, 1862 (which see).
