James L. George, 69, Albany Gunsmith Dies
James Lee George, of Albany and a brother of Walter E. George of Scio passed away Thursday last week, Oct. 26, 1961 at the age of 69 years.
Born Aug. 6, 1892 at Denver, Colo. He lived in his boyhood days at Scio, then moved to Portland and Oregon City before locating at Albany where he continued to live until his death. He was a member of the Albany Fire Department in his younger days.
Well known as a gunsmith and a member of the Albany Gun Club, he was a frequent visitor at Scio.
Survivors besides the brother, Walter E. George at Scio are four sisters, Mrs. Nora Brown of Salem, Mrs. Viola Shelley of Albany, Mrs. Mae Passut of Vancouver, Wash. and Mrs. Carrie Frey of Portland; also several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Services were held at Fortmiller-Fredrickson Funeral Home Saturday afternoon with Rev. Peter B. Loewen of Albany Grace Mennonite Church officiating. Burial was in Miller Cemetery.
