- Lula's true parentage is not clearly known. In the 1880 Census she is identified by the 'Drewlinger' surname and listed as the niece of Francis Marion 'Drewlinger'. In her marriage record with Samuel Barger, she identifies herself as 'Lula Drulinger' and states that it is her first marriage leading one to assume that Drulinger/Drewlinger was her maiden name. In her daughter, Nora's Social Security Application she is identified as Lula Drewlinger. However, she is later identified as 'Lula Hardwick Barger' in Nora's obituary. Nancy Jane nee Hardwick is the wife of Francis Marion Drulinger/Drewlinger. If 'Hardwick' is her true birth surname, then it is possible she is the daughter of one of Nancy's brothers assuming Nancy had brothers and as such, would still be a niece of Francis on his wife's side. If she is the daughter of one of Francis' brothers, it would seem more likely she could be the daughter of Michael Drewlinger and his wife, Josephine Grimm who also had ties to Kentucky. Until proof positive evidence of her true parentage becomes known to us here at Drollingergenealogy.com she will be listed herein as the "temporary" daughter of Francis Marion Drulinger.
Additionally, the spelling of and the order of her given names is also not clearly known. It appears that 'LouVade' may be the proper spelling and name order, however, it could also be 'Lou Vada' or 'Lula Vada' or something else. 'Lula' may be her nickname. Hopefully, proof positive evidence will become known to us. Until then she is identified herein as 'LouVade' with the nickname of "Lula".
