Gary was born on July 18, 1951 to James Gribben and Bernice Trullinger in San Francisco, CA. He lived in many places growing up, as his father was in the service. He spent years in Hawaii, Germany, and Colorado before settling back in the San Francisco Bay Area.
In 1977, he purchased a home in Fremont, CA, to raise his two young daughters. In 1978, he met his wife Kathleen, married in 1981, and had three more children. He lived in Fremont raising his family for 38 years and during this time he had a 37-year career with Aramark Uniform Services. In 2015, Gary retired and moved to Aptos with Kathleen to enjoy the easy-going beach lifestyle.
Gary enjoyed water skiing, jet skiing, going to the lake, playing cards, and camping with his siblings and in-laws. He spent many years watching his children and grandchildren play baseball, basketball, softball, water polo, and swimming. He was an avid SF Giants, 49ers, and Golden State Warriors fan. In his final years, nothing gave him more happiness than watching his youngest grandchildren play.
Gary passed peacefully after a three-year battle with cancer, he was 65 years-old.
Gary is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kathleen; children Tina (Robert) Oteri, Kirstien (DJ) McDaniels, Eric (Jennifer) Gribben, Kevin Gribben and Tonya Gribben; grandchildren John Ray, Alexis, Dominique, Jaxson, Gianna, and Joseph. He is also survived by his mother and father, Bernice and Ralph Trullinger, and mother and father in-law, Tony and Mabel Alameda. Siblings, Lonnie (Steve) Leege, David (Terri) Gribben, Cindy (Terry) Ferguson, Lori Erickson, Sherrie Welker and Cheryl (Dan) Monarrez. Siblings in-law, Dennis (Teresa) Alameda, Ron (Judy) Alameda, Linda (Steve) Strawn, and Joaquin Alameda. He had 18 nieces and 18 nephews. He was preceded in death by his father James Gribben, who passed in December of 2003.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Shorelife Community Church (875 Monterey Avenue, Capitola, CA 95010) on Saturday, April 29th from 12:00pm to 3:00pm. Please join us in the Family Center, you are more than welcome to wear gear from your favorite sports team.
