- Lois Rodger, 99, formally of Venice, Florida, passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022. Lois chose to be cremated and have her remains scattered at sea.
Lois was born May 20, 1923, to Leslie and Ruth (Drollinger) Martin in Creston. She had two younger brothers, Al and Don Martin.
Lois had a remarkable life. She stayed in Creston, graduating from Creston?s Junior College. She lived in Chicago, Illinois, for a few years working as a ticket agent for American Air. She returned to Creston and married Bill Bolton. They eventually moved to Venice Island, Florida. That is when Lois started working for Venice Travel Agency. Lois and Bill later divorced.
Lois started traveling, going on many cruises and traveling to many, many countries. It was on one of her instate trips where she met Jim Rodger of Venice Gardens, Florida. They married and traveled until Lois?s retirement. Lois was on her third passport.
Lois enjoyed bowling and golfing. After her retirement, she joined a golfing league. She golfed twice a week walking 18 holes. In her 80s, she decided to walk just nine holes. At the age of 90, Lois had abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery and had to give up her golfing. She moved to Creston to live with her brother, Don until moving to Homestead Assisted Living where she lived for several years before her passing.
Survivors include one brother, Don Martin of Creston; eight nieces and nephews: Terri (Jim) Gillespie of Earlham, Ron (Tammy) Martin of Creston, Merri (Mike) Ringen of Knob Noster, Missouri, Sherri (Jerry) Clark of Norwalk, Drs. Kerri (James) Metzger of Marshalltown, Dave Martin of Fresno, California, Deborah (Thomas) Skinner of Florida and Diane (Deon) Ronald of Des Moines; along with many great and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband Jim, her parents, her brother Al, sister-in-law Lou Martin Brown, sister-in-law Margie Martin and nephew?s John and Dan Martin.
