      NEW CUMBERLAND, PENNSYLVANIA - Colonel David G. Mehargue, USMC retired, 80, of New
      Cumberland, Pennsylvania, and formerly of Galveston, died Easter Sunday, April 11, 2004, at his home.

      Colonel Mehargue served his country as a combat Marine in World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.

      He is survived by his wife Jane A. Houseal Mehargue; three daughters, Jane Anne Mehargue of Gaithersburg, Maryland, Susan L. King, wife of Dr. Edward T. King of Edmond, Oklahoma, and
      Judy L. Kiser, wife of Colonel John B. Kiser of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania; two granddaughters,
      Elizabeth J. Kiser and Allison J. Kiser; and a sister, Helen Crosley, wife of
      Andrew Crosley of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

      Services with full military honors were held on Thursday, April 15, 2004, in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pennsylvania, preceded by a visitation in the Stone & Murray Funeral Home in New Cumberland.

      David G. Mehargue was a tried and true U.S. Marine who was revered by his troops. As did his friend and contemporary, Colonel Lee R. Weber of Galveston, Mehargue rose through the
      ranks from a private to a colonel - an achievement which produced a special bond with enlisted men throughout his long and accomplished military career. Marines from Galveston County who served under Colonel Mehargue's command over several generations include: Jerry Anselmo, Israel Armendariz, Gene Austin, Charles and Robert Biyant, James Hazlitt, Douglas
      McLeod, James Milligan, Henry W. Nichols, Jr., Gregory Rekoff, Sr., Bob Richardson, Gilbert Salinas, James Shukanes, Trenton Torregrossa, Richard Torres, Hans Von Der Hofen, Joe
      Vickery and other enlisted Marines whom Colonel Mehargue always treated with utmost respect and impartiality.

      He will be missed by all who knew him.
