- Former Sutton resident Iris Mae Ramsey-Barnett, 87, died Saturday, October 20, 2012, at Heritage Crossings in Geneva, NE. Iris was born December 10, 1924, in Sutton, NE. to Dr. James and Opal (Foster) Barbee.
Iris received her education in Sutton, NE. and graduated from Sutton (NE.) High School before furthering her education at Southeast Community College. On December 31, 1945, she married Charles Ramsey in Phillipsburg, KS. Iris was widowed in 1951, and was left to raise two young boys. She was devoted to her sons and passed up a promotion so that they could finish school in Sutton, NE. She was a loving and doting grandmother to her six grandchildren. Iris was very active in the church and loved singing in the church choir and around the house. She was employed with Lincoln Telephone & Telegraph of Lincoln, NE. for over 22 years. On June 22, 1991, she married Ronald Barnett. They traveled and square danced together and split their homes between Sutton and Geneva.
Iris was a member of PEO where she held the office of Treasurer; the Federated Church Women's Fellowship where she held the offices of Vice-President and Secretary-Treasurer of Circle I; and the American Legion Auxiliary where she held the offices of Sergeant?at-arms and Chaplain.
Iris is survived by: sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Karen Ramsey of Sutton, NE. and Ron and Ann Ramsey of Lincoln, NE.; grandchildren, Eric and wife Amber Ramsey; Nicole and husband Adam Hansen; Carisa Ramsey; Rebecca and husband Nate Brecht; Nick and wife Becky Ramsey; Alyssa Ramsey; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sally Barbee of Sutton, NE.; step-daughter, Nancy and husband Bob Riley; step-granddaughter, Susan Riley and a host of relatives and friends.
Iris was preceded in death by: parents; husbands, Charles Ramsey and Ronald Barnett; infant child; two brothers; and a sister-in-law.
Interment was the Sutton Cemetery, Sutton, NE.
