- John Henry Shaw - Capt. USN Retired -
John, age 82, passed away on the 17th of November, 2011 at his home in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born in Jacksonville, on January 28, 1929, son of Lucille and C.C. Shaw.
He was survived by his wife Delilah A. Shaw, his children Robert Shaw, Jode Shaw, Kimberly Carter, and John Randolph Shaw, along with his 6 grandchildren.
He earned the rank of Eagle Scout prior to graduating from Miami Senior High. He received a B.S. in Agriculture from the University of Florida where he was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he joined the Naval Aviation Community. John loved to fly, and flew planes on the carriers USS midway, and USS Roosevelt. He also navigated the USS Independence.
After 32 years of service in the Navy, John returned to Miami where he utilized his experience in moving to become a Realtor for Esslinger, Wooten, and Maxwell Inc. John was an active member at Old Cutler Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder.
Upon retirement of his second career he returned to the place of his birth, Jacksonville, where he has resided for the past seven years. Life was always an adventure for John and his family.
A visitation will be held from 2pm to 4pm Sunday, November 20th at Hardage-Giddens Edgewood Chapel. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 21st at Riverside Presbyterian Church, 849 Park St. Jacksonville, FL 32204. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to either the Boy Scouts of America, or Riverside Presbyterian Educational fund.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 3 PM in Carter-Hill Plantation Cemetery in Twiggs County with full military honors.
