- Sharon Lee (Sturgeon) Weible died peacefully at the Cumberland House in Crossville on Friday, Jan. 6, 2023. She was born in Vandalia, IL, on Jan. 2, 1940, the eldest child of Clifford and
Katharyn (Trullinger) Sturgeon.
Sharon graduated from William Woods College (Fulton, MO) and Washington University (St. Louis, MO).
In 1960 she married Lyle Weible, whom she met while both were students at Belleville (IL) Township High School. They enjoyed a lifetime of happiness together and were blest to have three sons, Timothy (Shirley), Albany, OR; Joel (Katherine), Louisville, KY; Peter (Suzanne), Denver, CO, and subsequently six precious and precocious grandchildren, Rebecca Weible, Sarah Weible, Joshua Weible, Sam Weible, Annie Weible, Gabe Weible. Sharon and Lyle retired to Uplands Village in 2003.
Sharon spent several years as a secondary school English teacher. Her last 25 years before retirement were at Gettysburg College where she provided staff support in Anthropology/Sociology and Psychology departments, in the college library and with Information Technology. She was a frequent volunteer in groups and services throughout her life, including Adult Literacy, Florence Crittenden Homes, public schools, volunteer programs and church groups. Since retirement she accepted leadership
responsibilities in many committees and for special events in local church and community, particularly in the Pleasant Hill Historical Society of the Cumberlands and as curator of Pioneer Hall Museum. In addition to her husband and children, Sharon is survived by her two sisters, Janis (Dennis) Baker,
Tracy, CA; Nancy (Michael) Willett, Noblesville, IN; and a brother David, Stockton CA.
The date of a memorial service has not yet been set.
Arrangements and services provided by Hood Funeral Home and Crematory. In lieu of flowers contributions to the Pleasant Hill Community Church UCC Mortgage Reduction fund are requested.
