- Our loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Leona Magdelena Ford Moore, age 99, passed away May 21, 1996 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Born September 24, 1896 in Salt Lake City to John Daniel Ford and Julia Magdelena Hopfenbeck. Married Samuel D. Moore in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1967. He preceded her in death.
Leona resided for many years in the Avenues, and lived an active life as a business woman working for several companies. She held many positions in the LDS Church and her shorthand was used extensively to transcribe patriarchal blessings. Her thirst for knowledge, mastery of art, and love of literature contributed to her being known as a gracious and caring lady. Her extended family will miss her hospitality, wisdom and gentle advice.
Leona is survived by her son, Joseph F. Wood, Jr. and his wife, Helen; daughter-in-law, Mari Lou Wood; nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include stepdaughters, Maurine Shaw, Fern Cope (Robert), Luella Miller (Marvin J.), Zina Fisher (Wayne), Lanice Munk (Allen); and numerous step-grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Theresa F. Sims of Aptos, Calif.; brothers, Frank and George Ford of Salt Lake City, Utah. Preceded in death by brothers, Clyde, John, Theodore and Ernest and a son, David Ford Wood.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 28, 1996, 12 noon at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, where friends may call from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
