  • Notes
    • Julia Drolinger had red hair and freckles. From Pansy (Strickland) Caywood, daughter of Grover Cleveland Strickland, her mother in law had lived by Julia and Henry Strickland at one time. Julia loved flowers and had a formidable flower garden. When "Mother" Caywood (Pansey's mother-in-law) got married, the flowers for her wedding came from Julia's garden.

Burial: Camp Crowder Cemetery, Missouri (Source: Headstone- Julia Strickland.)

Marriage: November 07, 1881, Earlton, Neosha, Kansas (Source: Marriage certificate of Henry Strickland and Julia A. Drollinger.)

Children of Henry Strickland and Julia Drolinger are:

      i. Naomi "Nomie" Strickland, born October 16, 1881 in Earlton, Chanute, Kansas; died February 02, 1969 in Baxter Springs, Treece, Kansas; married John Davis McBride January 18, 1902 in Owen, Indiana.

ii. Grover Cleveland Strickland (Source: Ruth Goad research- grand daughter of Grover C..), born February 24, 1888 in Tulsa Indian Territory; died February 06, 1937 in Ottowa County, Oklahoma; married Hannah Clarice Mathis February 08, 1910 in Chitwood, Jasper Missouri (Source: Marriage certificate-Grover C. Strickland and Hannah Sturgeon.).

Grover Cleveland Strickland worked in the mines in Picher, Oklahoma. He died of "TB" or "Miner's Lung" at the age of 49 years old. See the story of Miner's lung in the notes of S.L. Ennis, Sr. His youngest daughter was only 4 years old when he died.

Marriage: February 08, 1910, Chitwood, Jasper Missouri (Source: Marriage certificate-Grover C. Strickland and Hannah Sturgeon.)

iii. Minnie Dean Strickland, born January 29, 1883 in Chanute County, Kansas; died March 17, 1962 in Wetimka, Oklahoma; married Harry Mathis.

iv. Effie May Strickland, born June 06, 1886 in Indian Territory; died October 07, 1974 in Colorado; married (1) Joe Crawford; married (2) Will Neson Spear 1920; married (3) Martin Luther Wheeler Aft. 1926.

Per Pansey (Strickland) Caywood, Grover Cleveland's daughter, Aunt Effie was a Wheeler when she was a kid. I have a picture of Effie and Martin Wheeler. Pansey corresponded with Effie at one time and said her letters were sweet and kind, but, there was not much family history that she knew.

According to Goldie McBride, Martin Wheeler was a "Seer" who had an ancient Indian who would manifest himself to Martin. When Samuel Ennis Jr. was in the Pacific during WWII, Goldie asked Martin if Sam was going to come home alive. Martin said he would see if he could find out. A few days later, he told Goldie that Sam would be fine and that he would come home the sixth month of 1946. As predicted, Sam was discharged June of 1946. Per family lore, Martin would go into a trance-like state and the old Indian would speak through him.

      v. Henry Strickland, born May 26, 1898 in Logan, Arkansas; died April 24, 1953; married Edith Jane Owsley April 12, 1921; born February 10, 1904 in Buffalo, Dallas County, Missouri; died January 22, 1984.

I am cleaning up my e-mails and find your letter is still there, with the question where do I fit into the Drolinger line. I THINK I answered this, but, in case I didn't....Julia Ann Drolinger is my gr gr Grandmother (my Dad's grandmother) on his mother's side of the family. She married Henry Strickland b. 22Dec 1844; d.15 Jan 1906 and they had 6 children. When they moved to Missouri, I do not know. When they married, WHERE they married, where the kids (all I have is their names) were born, except my grandmother in Kansas, I do not know. Big question marks there. I want to thank you again for your family tree. My Dad will be so thrilled with the STORIES of his ancestors-- something that is lacking in so much of the data on our ancestors--the stories give them dimension and more of a sense of WHO they were. Where and when is important, too, but WHO is so seldom answered! And thank you for the learning I did from you. I knew so little about early Germany , Baden, Palatines, before this tree showed up. I have always loved Geography and history and it was fun getting out the encyclopedia and exploring new things!
      Have a great day!
