- Merle Katherine Chason was the daughter of the late Perry Oliver Chason and Jewell Adams Chason. She married James Hollis Bearden, he preceded her in death after 49 years of marriage. Merle was a teacher with the Grady County School system for 33 years. Her past time was reading. She was a member of the Retired Educators' Association, Cairo Women's Club, and Gardenia Garden Club. She joined the First Baptist Church in 1937, when she was 11. Merle has served the church as Training Union Director, Training Union Teacher, and Bible School Teacher. She was a member the Ethel Barkley WMU Group, which she dearly loved. Merle had served as WMU Director and President. She was a member of the TEL Sunday School Class. Other family include her daughter, Kathi Bearden Worthy; sons, Keith Bearden and Kim Bearden; brother, Mercer Chason; sister, Ione Grebinger; grandchildren, Chason Garcia, Jay Worthy, Emme Worthy, Justin Bearden, Kevin Bearden, Emily Bearden, Jeremy Bearden and Ashley Bearden; great-grandchildren, Maggie Garcia and Luke Garcia, Jake Bearden, and Bella Worthy.
