The Commercial News Thursday February 18, 1960 pg 14 Area Couple to Mark Golden Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Craig Sr., of Veedersburg, Ind., will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary with an open house from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the home of a son, Samuel Craig Jr., 113 W. 7th St. The Craigs were married February 26, 1910, at the courthouse in Rockville. We never got out of the building, but went right to a justice of the peace and were married as soon as we obtained the licenses, , Mrs. Craig explained. Craig was reared south of Veedersburg and Mrs. Craig, the former Beulah Kiger, was reared in Parke County. They had lived most of their married life around Veedersburg, and 37 years in their present home. Craig has been variously employed as a laborer. They have five children; Mesdames Alfred (Bea) Hershberger, Byron (Thelma) Gosnell, Russell (Janice) Booe Jr. and Samuel Craig , Jr. all of Veedersburg; and William J. Craig of Stone Bluff. There are 11 grandchildren. Mrs. Craig's major activity is her housekeeping. She enjoys television, especially the programs :Day in Court" and "Verdict Is Yours". Both she and her husband enjoy the wrestling exhibitions. In younger days, the latter's favorite diversions were fishing, fox hunting and trapping. He also follows baseball, but was partial to the Chicago Cubs in the days of Lon Warneke and Hack Wilson. It is expected that all their children, as well as neighbors and friends will greet them during the open house. THERE IS ALSO A PICTURE OF THEM AT THE TOP OF THE ARTICLE. Golden anniversary article from Wilma VanSant, granddaughter of Della Kiger Rudd. Della was sister of John Wesley Kiger father of Beaulah.

Samuel Larkin Craig Sr. and Beaulah Ellen (Kiger) went with her father John Wesley Kiger by train to Rockville, Parke County, Indiana to get married. Beaulah Ellen Kiger had an Uncle Lewis Clore that lived next to her before getting married near Byron (that's north of Waveland). Sam and Beaulah lived in a tent west of Wolf Creek Falls Cemetery until they were married 5 years. Sam worked for Earl Newnum as a farmer. The tent had a wood floor, a cook stove in the kitchen, and a stove in the living room. The boss got them a rug for the living room. Beatrice and Thelma were born there.

After Wolf Creek Falls area, Sam and Beaulah lived on College Street in Veedersburg,Indiana. (North part of town). Then when Samuel Jr. was a baby they moved to South Columbia Street in the south part of Veedersburg. Their last two children were born there.

The burial plots of Samuel and Beaulah are at Rockfield Cemetery. They were given to them by Robert Patton. The Pattons were friends of Alford and Beatrice Hershberger and they gave the plots out of the goodness of their hearts.

Samuel Larkin Craig, Sr. died in Lafayette Hospital of cancer. He worked at the north brickyard in Veedersburg, Indiana. He did brick wheeling and was a general laborer. He died at the age of 71 yrs old.

Beaulah lived in their home after his death until just before she died. Beaulah died March 3, 1977 it was an instant death. She had a bad heart and Dr. Persons had gave her several weeks to live. From that time on she stayed with her daughter, Janice Booe. Janice lived just a couple of houses away from Dr. Persons and right around the block from Sam Jr.

Samuel's hobbies were hunting, fishing, dogs and he had some bee hives. Beaulah's hobbies were canning, embrodierying , and collecting pictures. She could play the french harp by ear and the organ.

Sam Sr. wore glasses only to read. He didn't have false teeth. When Sam Jr. was younger his dad smoked cigarettes then later smoked cigars or a pipe. Beaulah had false teeth and wore glasses all the time.
