Notes |
- William Jeff Waldon, Jr. of Bakersfield, CA passed away on February 19, 2019 at the age of 93. Jeff was born on September 6, 1925 to William Jeff Waldon, Sr. and Ruth Ann (Wildharber) Waldon near Bandana, Kentucky. Jeff spent his youth between Bandana, Kentucky; Taft, California; and Bakersfield, California.
After returning from Kentucky, he attended Kern Union High School where he graduated in 1944. He joined the Navy and served as a signalman on the USS LST 177 (Landing Ship Tank) until his discharge in 1946.
In 1954 he married Frances Harris, the love of his life. Jeff and Frances had two sons, William Jeff Waldon, III and Grover Harris Waldon. Together, Jeff and Frances were active members in the Bakersfield community and First Presbyterian Church, where they both filled numerous roles and positions of service. Jeff has been a regular attender and member of First Presbyterian Church for almost 70 years.
Jeff spent 45 years in the life & health insurance and securities business, working as an agent and general manager for Cal-Western Life, as a CLU and ChFC. During his career he received numerous awards, including being a Qualified Member of the Million Dollar Roundtable and President's Top Ten.
He was a Charter Member of the Oildale Kiwanis Club and served as its President in 1956. This service led to decades of working at the Kiwanis Corn Booth, at the Fair, for the benefit of disabled youth.
After losing Frances in 1994, after 40 years of marriage, he became reacquainted with Annabel Davies, who had recently returned to First Presbyterian Church, after losing her second husband. They fell in love and were married in November of 1996. They shared many wonderful experiences and the new blended Waldon and Davies (Bill, Rick, Linda, and their clan) families were such a joy. Jeff lost Annabel after 17 years of marriage and continued to reside in his home until his passing.
Jeff had a passion for hunting, horseback riding, and his cabins at Greenhorn and Glennville. He was a long time member of the Kern County Sheriff's Mounted Posse, through which he participated in many parades and always looked forward to annually helping out with the disabled children's day at the Fair.
Jeff is survived by his immediate family, Jeff Waldon, III, of San Francisco; Grover (Catherine) Waldon of Bakersfield; his grandsons Josh (Ashley) Waldon and Trevor Waldon, of Bakersfield; and his great-grandson, Walker Waldon and great-granddaughter, Lucille Waldon.
Jeff loved his family immensely and was loved by them. Jeff believed his faith in Jesus Christ saved his life here on earth and for eternity. The Lord has been lord of his life for more than six decades.
Special thanks to Hoffmann Hospice (particularly, Ashley W., Sarah, Annie, Maudie, Candice B., Jacki and Ana R.), Dr. Warren Wisnoff, Around the Clock Care (particularly Jeff's caregiver Maria), and Jeff's niece, Brenda Hallum. You were all very special to him and were gracious in allowing him dignity and comfort over the last few months of his life.
A Memorial/Celebration Service is scheduled for Friday, March 15, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 1705 17th Street, Bakersfield, California.
