    • Excerpt from 17 Jan 1994 letter from Margaret Bullock to Gordon L. Drollinger

In 1977 my eldest son, Scott, was stationed with the US Army in Miesau near Karlsruhe. ...

Our son, Scott, was spending a 2nd hitch in Germany, stationed at Fishbach, when he killed in a tragic freak accident. It was in Nov 1983 just a week after the Beirut bombing of the 247 Marines. Because of that it took two weeks to get our son back home. He was 26 years old, and just loved Germany, and the "beer".

I remember reading about the accident in the Stars and Stripes paper. The accident was caused by US made tires running at high speeds on the Autobahn. It appeared the friction from the high speed heated up the tires and weakened the sidewalls causing blow outs. GLD
