- Elmer Franklin Parton Jr. of Columbia died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, at Columbia Health Care. He was 80.
Mr. Parton was born Jan. 29, 1922, to Elmer Franklin Parton Sr. and Rose Orena Cadwell Parton in Rock Springs, Wyo. He served in the Air Force during World War II and was promoted to staff sergeant. After his military service, he attended MU and went on to serve as a police officer for Columbia. Later he became self-employed. He retired in 1994.
He attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he was an elder.
Memorial services, conducted by Bishop Richard Houseman, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 904 Old Highway 63, Columbia.
Mr. Parton is survived by his wife, Maybelle Trollinger Parton; a daughter, Brenda Parton of Columbia; a son, Gene Parton of Jefferson City; a stepdaughter, Donna Kinder of Columbia; a brother, Robert Parton of Rock Springs; a sister, Vivian Lane of Cheyenne, Wyo.; three grandchildren; an adopted son of Brenda Parton; and four step-grandchildren.
A stepson, Ron L. Parton; a brother, Harry Parton; and a step-granddaughter died earlier.

Elmer Franklin Parton Jr., 80, Columbia, died Dec. 25, 2002, at Columbia Health Care.
He was born Jan. 29, 1922, in Rock Springs, Wyo., a son of Elmer F. Sr., and Rose Orlena Cadwell Parton. He was married to Maybelle Trollinger, who survives.
He attended the University of Missouri. He worked as a police officer for the City of Columbia and later was self-employed, until his retirement in 1994.
He was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he was an elder. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Other survivors include: one son, Gene F. Parton, Jefferson City; one daughter, Brenda Parton, Columbia; one stepdaughter, Donna Kinder, Columbia; one brother, Robert Parton, Rock Springs, Wyo.; one sister, Vivian Lane, Cheyenne, Wyo.; three grandchildren; one adopted grandson; and four step grandchildren.
One stepson, Ron L. Parton, and one step granddaughter, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Columbia. Bishop Richard Houseman will officiate.
