- It is hard to flesh out the bare bones of the tracks left by bits of data in official records that are the life of a person. Gabriel left fewer tracks than his older brother, Adam. Most come from church records in Salem County in the form of baptisms of his children in the Lutheran faith. One of them was his son Friedrich or Frederick as it was anglicized to. Friedrich or Frederick was a Patriot as defined by the Daughters of the American Revolution so it is safe to say he was not a Loyalist. As Gabriel remained in Salem county as evidenced by the August 1773 tax list, it is more likely he also was a rebel, Especially since two of his other sons, Gabriel and Jacob, were also militia members in Cumberland county Pennsylvania. According to his probate record filed in Philadelphia Gabriel was a green grocer. As such he would have furnished food in the form of greens to at least his son Frederick who lived near by. Probably to other members of the militia as well. This would be giving aid and comfort to the rebel cause and putting himself in danger from the Tory or Loyalist elements.
He traveled to the new world with his parents and young bride. Since his father was held up in leaving to sell his property it is a rather safe assumption that he has some funds. One doesn't really know but with the father having money it is probable the father paid for his way to the new world before leaving for the colony of North Carolina drawn by the promise of cheap land. As his brother was in line to inherit Gabriel's prospects were not good. His estate leaves no land and mentions he was a green grocer. The major industry in Salem County was the Wistar Glass Works. As his estate left several books it appears he was educated. Being educated and a green grocer it is a strong possibility Gabriel ran the company store for the glass works.

Stu Hitschner brought up an interesting point. Most immigrants were indentured to pay off their passage. The Wistar glass works in Salem County NJ acquired some of these indentures. The question is since his father had some property to sell off and travelled with him and his wife, was he in fact indentured? Or more likely his father paid his passage. His brother Adam most likely had his passage paid by his father also. We can only speculate as to the relationship between the two brothers. Since the code of Napolean had yet to be established the eldest son would most likely inherit. Since Adam went to Haw River following his father, why did Gabriel remain in NJ? At his death he was said to be a green grocer. The possibility exists that he was the manager of the Wistar glass works company store.

Estate probated Dec 1805 in Philadelphia by David Bowen, farmer Salem County NJ, as administrator for some unknown reason as Gabriel Trullender, grocer. One of the items charged the estate was to John Hoover executor of Simon Miller dec'd for a coffin for Mrs Trullender who died some few days before her husband. Distance between where he lived Salem and Phila were about equal so perhaps that is a factor. Estate should have been probated in Salem NJ. Copy in possession of Gordon L.
