  "Hazel" spelling of his first name taken from his daughter, Daisey's death certificate. Because Hays' obit was written by a friend versus a family member, it is understandable why there are a few inconsistencies in it such as identifying Daisey as child of his second wife, and by omitting Wheeler Trollinger Smith as another son by Alice.
