    • Mabel Fern Moore Cope, 83, passed away February 25, 2002 in Sandy, Utah due to congestive heart failure. Robert Lloyd Cope, 84, passed away unexpectedly just hours later, of a broken heart.

Robert was born January 19, 1918, to George Michael Cope and Geneva Cox in Richfield, Utah.

Fern was born February 13, 1919, to Samuel Drollinger Moore, Jr. and Mabel Caroline Monson in Pleasant Grove, Utah. They were married on July 31, 1942, in the Logan Temple.

Robert served an LDS mission in California. After graduating from Brigham Young University he was a teaching principal in Central, UT. He served as a Captain in the Army Air Corps during World War II after which he worked for eight years for the Postal Service. He worked for the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) and became chief appraiser. After retiring from FHA, he continued to work as a fee appraiser with his own real property appraisal business until his death. He was active in the LDS Church, serving in numerous positions including Bishopric Counselor, Ward Clerk, and was currently a worker in the Jordan River Temple. He loved to read, hike, and whistle. He was very wise, had a great sense of humor, and loved to help others. He was an outstanding husband and father.

Fern served an LDS mission in the Northwestern States. After graduating from Utah State University in Home Economics she taught school in Richfield, UT, where she met and married Robert. She was active in the LDS Church, serving in many capacities including positions in the Relief Society, Young Women, and Primary. She was probably best known for her service as the Ward Choir Director (and as the Cope Family Choir Director). She was a strong woman with strong convictions. She was an excellent wife and mother. Her family was her greatest joy and accomplishment. She loved sewing, cooking, telling stories, music, and family get-togethers. Robert and Fern enjoyed being together for 60 years. They always went places together. They had strong testimonies of the truthfulness of the gospel which led them to serve a mission together in Australia. Together they went to live with their Heavenly Father.

They are survived by their nine children: Carolyn Dixon (Bill) Roberts, Orem, UT; Robert Lloyd (Rebecca) Cope, Jr., South Weber, UT; Nadine Terry, Salt Lake City, UT; Sterling Duane (Verla Jean) Cope, Sandy, UT; Shauna (Allan) Petersen, Salt Lake City, UT; Jeannette (Von) McAllister, Sandy, UT; Russell David (Jan) Cope, Sandy, UT; Anita (Scott) Rose, Bountiful, UT; and Eldon Blaine (Laurisa) Cope, Salt Lake City, UT; 41 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and four step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers George Denzel (Evelyn-living) Cope, Edward Lane (Dorothy) Cope, and Thomas Keith (Barbara) Cope and sister Melba Laurine (Von) Hoyt.
