- Laurence Glenn Pacey, 86, of rural Miltonvale, died Jan. 23, 2009.
The family provided some of the following information.
He was born Nov. 7, 1922, in rural Miltonvale. He was a farmer and school teacher, retiring after teaching for 42 1/2 years. He continued his love of education after his retirement by volunteering at various schools helping students, and also enjoyed telling stories and making ropes.
He proudly gave away hundreds of bowling pin lamps, numerous blocks for small children and other woodworking projects he spent hours in the basement constructing. After the passing of his wife, Eunice, he took over the writing of the Hammerli News and added the "Bit of History" portion. He had such a sharp memory of the past and enjoyed writing in a unique way.
He married Eunice Evelyn King July 20, 1945. She preceded him in death Feb. 23, 2006. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mearl (Myer) Pacey; a sister, Katheryn Gathers; a brother, Franklin Pacey; and a son-in-law, Bob Hauck.
Survivors include his 13 children and their spouses, 39 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Children are Nancy and Paul Sells of Wichita, Sharon Hauck of Manhattan, Charles and Nancy Pacey of Miltonvale, Janice and Vic Bulleigh of Bennington, Shriley and Durwin Mall of Clay Center, Marlene and Terry Walker of Minneapolis, Dale and Chris Pacey of Lincoln, Linda and Kim Demars of Clearwater, Pam and Darrell Everett of Clay Center, Lennie and Janelle Pacey of Beloit, Laurie and Larry Zink of Turon, Jim and Tiffany Pacey and Steve and Linda Pacey, all of McPherson.
Respect calls may be made prior to the service at Phelps Funeral home in Miltonvale. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Services will be at 2 p.m. at the Miltonvale Wesleyan Church.
Graveside services will follow at the Miltonvale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Miltonvale Ambulance, Education Endowment, or the donor's choice.
