I was actually looking at Washington Drollingers and must have hit WV instead. Her husband Leroy was also a fighter pilot in WWII, shot down and burned. He used to carry a half dollar and walk it thru his fingers to keep them supple. He was a lawyer and early on found where gg grandpa ran afoul of the law in Butler County PA. 1078 | (Note: Ref Frederick's record for the first portion of his biography) In 1974, with her experience as a graphic designer Susan joined a friend, Judy Rose, who had experience in advertising sales. Together they started The Fox Publishing Company (Fox after Grace Fox Trullinger) in Portland, Oregon, to publish "Portland and the Pacific Northwest", an annual hard cover guide book which was placed in all the rooms and suites of the city?s leading hotels for travelers? use while visiting. Over the years, the business expanded to do some specialty publishing for hotels and a semi-annual, paperback guide, The Fox Guide, which features a calendar of timely events. In 1980, Susan was married to Robert Louis Monti, a fine young man from the Puget Sound area. Although they had both lived in Seattle and both graduated from the University of Washington at the same time, they never met until introduced by a mutual friend in Vancouver, Washington on Christmas Day, 1979. On March 24, 1982, a beautiful daughter, Allison Anne was born to Bob and Susan. Susan continued her work at Fox Publishing, as well as serving as housewife and mother. Bob was working with U-Cart Concrete when they were married but changed to a challenging position with Wagner Mining Equipment Co. as Finance Director about the time Allison was born. He was promoted within the company to Vice President of Credit and Finance for Paccar International in 1984 and the family moved back to the Seattle area, settling in Medina, Washington, near Bob?s office. Let us retreat back to 1964. Frederick and Sally had lived at 302 Edwards Lane, in Vancouver, Washington, for nearly 30 years and Sally had longed to move to a new house, maybe with a view. On her birthday, Frederick took a plat map of a beautiful new neighborhood being developed and colored all the lots for sale with colored pencils, each lot in a different hue. He made a birthday card for Sally which said ?I know your size but not the color. Choose your lot.? So it was to be 4613 Du Bois Drive, Vancouver, Washington. For over two years, they were actively engaged in house planning and building. They moved in January, 1967. The new home was a masterful endeavor of beauty and craftsmanship. The rooms were large and impressive, with walls of specially milled hemlock paneling, which ran unbroken from floor to the eleven-foot ceiling. Huge windows graced the entire southern side of the home, opening to a spectacular view of the Columbia River and the city of Portland. A handsome bedroom on the lower floor was designed for the comfort of Fred, Jr. It was complete with recreational room and easy access to the oversize swimming pool. The house contains over 5,000 sq. ft. Magnificent in every detail. Sarah, with her natural gift of decorating, did an outstanding job selecting warm, natural colors to enhance the overall picture. This beautiful home has been the gathering place for the family each Christmas Eve. True enchantment never to be forgotten. The cocktail hour, preceded a magnificent table laden with tempting food. The apex was reached as we gathered around the Christmas tree to receive our own special gift. After all gifts had been distributed, Frederick quietly walked to each child, distributing a very special envelope. What did the envelope contain? Nothing less than a paper bill of ample denomination. It was always discomforting when the clock struck ten, or about ten, for t'was time to depart this exciting atmosphere. We never left their home without anticipating the joys of the coming Christmas Eve. This wonderful spirit of love, of happiness and renewal ended on Christmas Eve of 1980. Frederick was stricken with cancer the following year. How blessed we were to have enjoyed their warm hospitality for so long. The memory will never die and the occasion, never duplicated. The evening of enchantment is over. Frederick passed away December 20, 1981. 1084 | (Ref large family photo also attached to this article) Mr. N. E. Mulkey has furnished Goodyear Clearwater Mills No. Three with more help than any other man in Atco. He is the proud father of nineteen children, eight boys and eleven girls, of whom seven are Goodyearites. Mr. Mulkey was born in Jasper, Ga., May 28, 1872. After spending eighteen years on his father's farm, he married and started out for himself. Purchasing a small farm he made a successful farmer. However, the cotton mills attracted Mr. Mulkey, so he sold out and moved to Atco, obtaining employment with the American Textile Company. So great were the opportunities for himself and the educational facilities offered his children that he decided to make Atco his permanent home. He has resided twenty-two years in this village. Aside from working in the mill he has occupied the pulpit, preaching wherever and whenever the call came. He has always enjoyed good health and expects to continue. Mr. Mulkey's advice to the young men contemplating marriage is to select a partner from the country. The youngest member of the happy family arrived less than eight weeks ago. Her name is Gladys Ray. The others are as follows: Mildred, 2; Maggie, 4; Nellie, 7; Hazel, 13; Andrew 16; Ruby 17; Beatrice, 19; Henry 22; Fannie, 28; Jimmy, 29; Hardy and Harley twins, 30; Lillie, 32; Leonard, 34; Myrtle 35; William, 37; Carl, 38. This is a remarkable family. The employees of Goodyear Clearwater Mills No. 3 and the Wingfoot Clan congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Mulkey on their happy family.
