970 | "Walter Wharton, born in 1833, was the second oldest of Benjamin's sons. ...On August 6, 1862, he enlisted in Company I 83rd OVI. He was in a number of campaigns - Battle of Arkansas Post, siege and capture of Vicksburg, Battle of New Orleans, and Battle of Blakely, Alabama. He was discharged from Camp Dennison, Ohio in 1865. ...he never married... Walter Wharton, being an enthusiastic and loyal member of the gAR, planned elaborate memorial day ceremonies....ceremonies continued at Wharton's home which he had decorated quite festively for the occasion. Door frames and window frames were painted red, white, and blue as were the ig boulders which lined the edge of the yard... The last time Walter Wharton was able to celebrate in this fashion was on Sunday following Decoration Day, 1903. Over a hundred people came, and the events included a picnic feast for all. When he was no longer able to sponsor these events at his home, the ceremonies were held at Union Township Cemetery (Brookside Cemetery), where he was buried when he died in 1907 On a slight rise of the ground is a monument with a round marble cylinder lying sideways across the top. The American flag is etched on the side, or end, of the cylinder. This monument marks the grave of Walter W. Wharton, a Civil War veteran, who was quite patriotic and founded the Memorial Day ceremonies of Union Township. (Now West Chester Township). The wharton family had a flagpole placed by his grave. It was the first flagpole installed in the cemetery." - excerpt from A History of Union Township Butler County, Ohio by Virginia Shewalter. 1979 Walter served in the Civil War : CO I 83rd OVI residing next door to Benj. 974 | "Wesley and Beverly had a total of seven children including two sets of twins, six sons and one daughter" per Monte Wesley Drollinger. The Daily Inter Lake Wednesday, November 14, 1973 page one HUNTER FOUND DEAD Kila - Searchers of the Flathead Search and Rescue Assn. last night found Wesley Drollinger, 42, of 5 Meridian Rd., dead in the woods near Welcome Springs on the Flathead Mine Road. Drollinger was reported missing by his family about 7 p.m. Tuesday when he failed to return home from a hunting trip. About 40 members of the association were formed and an intense hunt made in the area of the springs. Drollinger was found about 10:15 p.m., dead in the woods, apparently a victim of his own weapon. Flathead County Deputy Coroner Charles Rhodes said an autopsy is to be performed. There was little doubt in Rhodes' mind the death was accidental. He said Drollinger had apparently dropped his rifle and when he went to retrieve it the trigger caught on a twig and discharged. The bullet struck him in the abdomen. According to Randy, his father, Wesley and brother, Wade were killed in separate hunting accidents only two weeks apart. Wesley's death year of 1973 is per Randy. 976 | "William Michael James Mulvey" per his son, Kenneth's Birth Certificate. from: Gail Haehnlein to: ddrollinger@gmail.com date: Mon, May 20, 2013 at 2:21 PM subject: Re: Drollinger/Baker family Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I am not the daughter of Clark Vernon and Mary (they were my godparents). My father Wyman Willard Swanson was my father. Clark and Mary didn't have any direct children (although they tried hard) They had one adopted child named Roger Clark Swanson. He never married or had children. He died at 55 from complications of Diabetes, right after Virginia died. It was so sad. She was very ill with cancer and couldn't attend in Colorado. My mother and I were the only family that was left. Mary's sister Virginia, and her brother Kenneth never married or had children. She was a visiting nurse for the city of Chicago for many years. She took the bus and cabs everywhere. I know Kenneth was engaged twice. The first was stopped because he was a pilot in the Air Force stationed in England and gone to much. I don't know about the second. I always wondered. He was so smart. They were wonderful people. I just adored Virginia. Mary and Clark (we all called him Vernon because his real name was Clarence and when he became a lawyer, the first thing he did was change his name to Clark) lived in Bowie Maryland and worked for the government in D.C. A really important job. Sometimes his office was in the pentagon. All I know was that his one title was undersecretary for somebody that he didn't talk about. He never left the country, because he said it was too much of a hassel. He was 6'3 and my dad was 5'8, go figure. Anyway, their father Michael James Mulvey was called Big Mike. He was Chicago Policeman until he got hurt. He got into some trouble at one time, but it didn't stick. He was still getting a pension when he died in 1953 or 54. I couldn't find his death anywhere, and my mother didn't write it down. I know for years he was working as a private cop for a railroad and another company, My mother said that Viola was a very quiet person and very nice. She loved going places and traveling even if it was only for a few hours. When Mary and Clark lived in New Mexico for quite a few years she went out there once or twice a year to visit. My mom she she took the train. Although everyone did at that time. Enough chatter. I will see what I can do about sending you that box. I will try for by next week. As for finding Gordon. I am on Ancestry.com. If you are registered on it, look at my Swanson family tree. that's where we are with the Mulvey's. If you are not. You can do their free trial for 2 weeks and then cancel. That's what I did when I started.
