- Helen Louise Janeway
Helen was born January 8, 1927 on a farmstead near Veedersburg IN. She had a happy childhood with her parents, four older brothers and sisters and several nieces and nephews. Helen graduated from Veedersburg High School in 1945 and entered the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in the fall of that year to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. She married Robert Lee Janeway in April 22, 1950.
Bob and Helen had two children, Stephen who now resides in Madison WI. and Debra who lives with her husband Ken Craig in Lafayette IN. She has one grandson, Aaron Craig, who lives with his wife, Lisa and their sons, Mason (8) and Avery (6).
Preceding Helen in death were her husband Robert, parents Luther Mullen and Kate S Songer Mullen, sisters Unity Mullen Lightle, Lucille Mullen Hanson; brothers Carl Mullen, Earl Gorden Mullen and Lawrence, who died in infancy; and granddaughter, Stephanie.
Those are the facts of Helen's life. The reality of her life was one of love, friendship, hard work, and giving. Bob and Helen owned Janeway Christmas Tree Farm in Veedersburg, IN for forty years. Helen moved in with her daughter in September after living in the same home for nearly 60 years. Steve and Debbie grew up there and learned the values their parents represented daily. Helen spent most of her working life as a Psych nurse at the VA in Danville, IL., doing a job she loved. She also worked alongside Bob on the tree farm, enjoying the outdoors.
On a personal note: Our mother was the most loving, honest, loyal woman we have ever known. She looked after her mother, brother, sister and niece during their final days. She loved her grandson Aaron Craig deeply and was so very proud of him. She was devoted to her granddaughter Stephanie, who was born with Cerebral Palsy. She dearly loved her extended family. She was a daughter, sister, cousin, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great aunt, dear friend and true Christian. And we can't forget her passion for animals. There was never a shortage of pets in the Janeway household. She was the family "Rock" and never even realized it. She will be missed!
Mom's wishes were to be cremated and for there to be no funeral, no mourning, only celebration of a life well lived. If you wish to donate in her name to the New Century Church in Veedersburg IN, or to any animal cause of your choice she and her family would be forever grateful.
