DIXON, CLAIRE MORRISON Former Macon Symphony Board Member and Warner Robins Woman of Achievement Claire Morrison Dixon, who traced her lineage back to a Welshman memorialized in Shakespeare's play, Henry V, died peacefully under hospice care on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the Hermitage in Alexandria, Virginia. Her passing came after a long convalescence from a fall suffered in November 2012. Mrs. Dixon was a former city historian, civic activist, and genealogy expert. As an Air Force wife she lived in France, Germany, Panama, and on Guam as well as in several U.S. states. Her extensive travels took her to China, Africa, Australia, South America, Europe and the Middle East. Mrs. Dixon lived in Warner Robins, Georgia for 45 years prior to her move to the Hermitage in 2010. In Georgia she was active in community affairs, serving as City Historian for Warner Robins and was the author of an updated city history: Warner Robins, the Second Twenty Five Years. She was past president of the Warner Robins chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW). In 1981 Mrs. Dixon was named Woman of Achievement by the Business and Professional Women's Club of Warner Robins. She was retired from the Georgia Department of Labor and had also worked as an actuary and tax consultant. She served as a member of the Macon (Georgia) Symphony Board. She was a member of Houston County Democratic Women's Club, Trinity United Methodist Church (Warner Robins) and Trinity's Hope Sunday School class. She supported animal protection efforts and was known particularly to love cats. Her pursuit of family genealogy led her to the discovery that she was a descendant of David Gam a Welshman who was knighted before his death at the Battle of Agincourt by English King Henry V. Gam was the model for the character Fluellen in Henry V. She was past Regent, Sukey Hart chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. Other genealogical memberships included: the Clan Morrison Society; Friends of Historic Northport, Alabama; the John Alden Chapter, Colonial Dames of the 17th Century; William Foster Chapter, Daughters of American Colonists; and Sidney Lanier chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Annie Claire Morrison was born October 4, 1920 in Birmingham, Alabama. She was the only child of Edison C. Morrison, and Irene Powell Morrison of East Lake. Educated at Robinson Elementary School, and Woodlawn High School in Birmingham, she was the first winner of the four-year Phi Beta Kappa scholarship to Birmingham Southern College where she received a B.A. in Mathematics in 1941. Her sorority was Theta Upsilon which later became affiliated with Delta Zeta sorority. Her March 1943 marriage to Floyd E. Dixon, Jr., ended in divorce. Colonel Dixon preceded her in death. Survivors include her only child, Mary Claire Dixon of Alexandria, Virginia; two granddaughters, Claire Maucieri (Mathew) of Alexandria, and Irene Trullinger of Brooklyn, New York; and two great grandsons, Leo and Andrew Maucieri of Alexandria. Her son-in-law was Park R. Trullinger III of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. A memorial service was held Sunday, April 21 at the Hermitage of Northern Virginia, 5000 Fairbanks Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22311.
