James Rafter Hanshew

Son of Henry Hanshew and Barbary Thomas.
He was born about 1815 in OH. His parents later moved to IN where theyremained and died in Madison Co, IN.
James married Mary Trullinger on 12 June 1840 in Fountain Co, IN. Theywere parents of 6 children, Caroline F. Hanshew[married Aaron Ogden],Margaret Ellen Hanshew[married George L. Pottorff], William TrullingerHanshew[married Charlotte Edwinnie "Edwene" Stella Bates], SarahHanshew[no other info], Elizabeth "Betsy" Ann Hanshew[married GeorgeEugene Rama and James Brogan Miller] and Marietta Hanshew[marriedMarion Merritt].
James and Mary later separated. He had a son Edward Hanshew but I donot know who the mother was or if they were married. Our familyhistory is that son William Trullinger Hanshew did not like having towatch this baby brother. William left for Civil War before age 16 in1863 so Edward would have been born prior to that date.
In 1860 census James and Mary are living in Davis Co, IA. He is afarmer and carpenter. I have not been able to locate him on latercensus but family record has him dying in 1892. And Mary died 1895. In1870 she was living with her daughter Marietta.
