      Kenneth Edel Obituary
Kenneth Michael Edel was born in Savannah, Georgia on May 3, 1957, and passed away peacefully on September 6, 2018, under the care of Hospice Atlanta and Weinstein Hospice in Atlanta following a sudden illness. Ken attended Savannah Country Day School and graduated from Benedictine Military School, where a classroom in the main academic building has been dedicated in his honor. Ken attended Lincoln College in Lincoln, Illinois and graduated from Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York with a BA in Psychology. After graduation Ken lived and worked in Illinois and Florida before settling in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was currently working in the claims department with AmTrust.

Ken was born on the birthday of his maternal great-grandfather, Walter Dannenberg of Macon, Georgia. Much like this iconic forebear, Ken had his own unique way of doing almost everything. Growing up, Ken enjoyed spending summers at the family beach cottage on Tybee Island and at camps in Maine and North Carolina. At High Rocks camp, his interests in the high diving board and the camp's horses worried his parents, which may have been part of the appeal. Along these same lines, Ken also as an adolescent liked to practice playing the drums, loudly, at home.

Ken swam for Ithaca College and other interests included volunteering at the Red Cross in Florida, a summer internship at Candler Hospital in Savannah, and a great affinity for the Atlanta sports teams, especially the Braves and the Falcons. He loved coming back to Savannah for fishing trips with his dad and cousins Jimmy and Chuck, guided by Eric Traub. A true dog lover, Ken almost always had a canine companion. At the time of his passing it was a rescue Pomeranian named Cinnamon.

A lifelong member of Congregation Mickve Israel in Savannah, Ken is survived by his devoted parents Julius Edel and Danyse Greenwald Edel, sister Cathy Edel Solomons (Philip), and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service will be graveside at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 9, at Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Robert Haas.

Remembrances: Edel Caregiver Institute at Hospice Savannah, Congregation Mickve Israel, Hospice Atlanta, Weinstein Hospice in Atlanta, or the Humane Society.
