- Because his son, Dennis has a son named Elijah (nickname Eli), it seems probable he was named in honor of his father's father. If so, it would serve as compelling evidence that Eli's true birth name is also Elijah.
According to the Union Historical Company of 1880 (copy contained herein), Eli and Sarah Trullinger had a total of eleven children.

TRULLINGER, ELI-Farmer, section 34, P. O. Mitchellville. Was born in Chillicothe, Ohio,
August 31, 1816, and resided there until 1826, when he moved to Fountain county, Indiana. In
1843, he came to Iowa and settled in Jefferson county, and three years later came to his present
location. Owns a farm of 400 acres. September 10, 1838 he was married to Sarah A. Vankirk,
daughter of Ira and Mary Vankirk of Hamilton county, Ohio. She died August 23, 1876, leaving
six children living: Dennis, Sarah J., Emma A., Lewissa S., Marinda and William J. Five are
deceased. He was one of the first settlers of the county, as well as of the township, and has been
identified with its best interests. Has held the office of township clerk, trustee and justice of the
peace, and also been identified with school organizations.
Eli Trullinger. Born on 31 Aug 1816 in US, Ohio, Pickaway. Eli died in US, Iowa, Polk, Mitchellville (at home three miles northeast) on 11 May 1905; he was 88.
Moved to Fountain Co US, Indiana in Dec 1826 at age of 10.
Migrated to Fountain Co US, Iowa via Ox Teams (400 miles), with his wife and three oldest children, his brother Daniel, Daniel's wife and one child, and younger brothers Jacob and J.J. in spring of 1843
Went to Polk Co in 1844 and broke prairie for Thomas Mitchell near Apple Grove
Moved to Polk Co in 1846 and settled at the edge of a little grove (500 acres) of native timber since know as Trullinger Grove. He is buried there.
Had the precinct voting place in his home for the first election in Polk Co 10/26/1846. Retained poll book from that election. Daisy Wood had part of this book and donated it to the Mitchellville, US, Iowa Historical Society.
Active in public office and in the running of his church
Had 24 living grand-children and 18 great-grand children at the time of his death.

On 10 Sep 1837 when Eli was 21, he married Sarah Ann VanKirk, in US, Indiana, Fountain Co. Born abt 1824 in US, Ohio. Sarah Ann died in Aug 1876; she was 52.
