Roland (Ronald) Dale Trullinger, age 74 of New Underwood, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Fri., August 26, 2011, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Ron was born November 11, 1936, in Madelia, MN, to the late Roy and Ragna (Jorgenson) Trullinger. He graduated from Madelia High School in 1954. He served in the U.S. Army 10th Infantry Division from 1955 to 1958. In May of 1958 he enlisted into the Air Force and was stationed at Ellsworth, AFB, where he met his wife Esther Louise Thompson. They were united in marriage on July 6, 1959 in Rapid City, SD. He was transferred to Travis, AFB where he ended his enlistment in 1962. Ron moved his family to New Underwood where he has lived for the remainder of his life.
In 1996, Ron retired after a lengthy and rewarding career in commercial construction. He was involved in the construction of numerous buildings in Rapid City and in the 5 state areas. Our father was a jack-of-all-trades, and there was nothing he couldn't do.
Ron is survived by his wife, Esther, his two sons and their wives, Jack and Dianne, Ron and Kammy, New Underwood; three daughters Debora Trullinger, McIntosh SD, Kathleen Trullinger, New Underwood, Sheila and Daniel Drown of New Underwood; 9 grandchildren Cheryl (Mike) Jones, Rapid City, Marie (Robert) Nehl, McIntosh SD, Amber (Jamie) Kienzle, Rapid City, Lynda Trullinger, New Underwood, Angela Drown, Rapid City, Kolyn, Tabitha, Moriah, and Savanah Trullinger, New Underwood; 9 Great Grandchildren Ashley (Trevis) Weinberg, Fayetteville, NC, Kimberly Williams, Rapid City, Ryan Jones, Rapid City, LilyAnna and Bryce Tipps, Rapid City, Brooke, Alyssa, and Joshua Kienzle, Rapid City, and Aaliyah Trullinger, New Underwood; 3 brothers Roy and Shirley, Hanover, MN, Gerald and Linda, Redwood Falls, MN, Steven and Mina, Makakilo City, HI; 4 sisters Bonita and Irvin Byro, Madelia, MN, Mavis and Victor Gelner, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte and John Malo, Fairmont, MN, and Darla Dahlager, Plymouth, MN; sister-in-law Betty Prince and husband Ernest Austin, New Underwood, brother-in-law Merril and Arlene Thompson, Rapid City; and numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter Linda Kay; grandson Jason, granddaughter Naomi; sister-in-law Joan Janis, brother-in-laws Don Dahlager and Homer Prince.
Visitation will be at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City on Monday from 5pm to 7pm, and then at the church for one hour before services.
Services are set for 10:00am Tues., Aug. 30, 2011 at New Underwood Community Church with the Rev. Wes Wileman officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the New Underwood Cemetery.
