Weekly Standard, Raleigh NC 22 Oct 1862
My son, John W. Trollinger of I Company 57th Regiment NC Troops having been advertised by Lieut. A.W. HOWERTON, of said Company, as a deserter, I take leave to say that he is no deserter, and that in fact he was sick at that time in hospital at Salisbury, must have been known to said Howerton. I have in my possession from physicians in good standing to show that my son is too sick to return to his company. He will do so as soon as his health is sufficiently restored.
