Darrell was known for his positive, cheerful and encouraging words, deeds and generous hospitality. In spite of his very meager circumstances, he eagerly started work at an early age to help his family put food on the table. He worked delivering cars from city to city and later delivering telegraphs for Western Union. He was in the Civil Conservation Corps (CCC) and built roads and bridges near McCall, Idaho. He was a car salesman, a ship welder and owned his own upholstery shop. He was in the United States Army during World War II and served in the European Theater. He served as a scout leader for over 25 years. He loved to go on camping trips and spend time with his family. His strong faith in God was evident as he continued to motivate and serve his family and church members. Darrell married his darling wife (married for 62 years), Verna Lottie Sielaff on Aug. 28, 1942. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They had four children: David (who died as an infant), Daniel Darrell (Tammie), Dale Bert (Carol Ann), Ricky Lynn (Lynda), and 12 grandchildren. His parents and his three brothers, Harold, LaVern and Melvin (Mickey) preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 1, at Relyea Funeral Chapel, Boise. Interment will follow the chapel service at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, Boise, Idaho, July 1 at 2:00 p.m.
