Lisbeth (Liz) Ann Trullinger Miller, 85, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014, at Lebanon Rehabilitation Center.
She was born and raised as the only child of John and Florence (Mac) Trullinger in Astoria. She graduated from Astoria High School, and continued her education at Willamette University and University of Oregon, where she earned a bachelor?s degree in education. After graduation she taught school in Long Creek, where she met Earl Miller, also a teacher, whom she married in 1952.
Later, they taught school in Myrtle Creek, then both went on to receive their master?s degrees in education at U of O. In 1960, they moved to Port Orchard, Washington, where their daughters, Darcy and Kimberly, were born. Liz stayed home to raised her daughters until Kim was 5 years old; then she returned to teach English and history at the high school in Port Orchard.
In 1975, the family moved to Lake Havasu City, Arizona, where Liz was actively involved in her church and volunteered for several local organizations. Her spirit was vibrant and energetic, and she made friends easily. After her husband, Earl, died in 1987, Liz lived in California and Oregon, working in a variety of positions while living close to her daughters. She lived with daughter Darcy for 13 years in Corvallis.
Liz volunteered for the Foster Grandparent Program at the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, the Children?s Farm Home, Cheldelin Middle School and Corvallis High School, working with school-aged children. She served on the board of the local Foster Grandparents Program for several years as the ?grandparent? representative. Her students loved and respected her ? as she did them.
Liz was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Corvallis, working with the youth group as a mentor and singing in the choir, and was a member of the fabulous Thursday Night Wild Women group. She loved gardening, reading, studying and walking, especially if it was on an Oregon beach.
During the last four years of her life, due to health issues, including Alzheimer?s disease, she lived at Conifer House in Corvallis and later at Avamere Rehabilitation Center in Lebanon. She is greatly missed by all who knew her vivacious, caring and engaging personality. Liz is survived by her daughters, Darcy Miller and Kimberly Knight (Jaime); grandchildren, Thaddeaus and Jenna; and brother-in-law, Glenn Miller (Anne).
A celebration of life service is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at First United Methodist Church, 1165 N.W. Monroe Ave. in Corvallis. Donations in honor of Liz Miller can be made to the Corvallis FUMC Memorial Fund, to support the music ministry program.
