- GREENSBORO - Mrs. Margaret Ernestine Whittemore, 91, of Greensboro, departed from this life on Sunday, February 26, 2012, at Clapps Nursing Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2012, at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Chapel. Burial will follow at Westminster Gardens Cemetery.
Born in Greensboro, April 1, 1920, to the late Phillip and Alma Kanoy, Mrs. Whittemore was a member of St. Paul Presbyterian Church. She worked as a seamstress her entire working life, even up until her retirement at the age of 88. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who took great pride in her family. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, cooking, and making baby blankets for all the new additions to her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John "Jack" Lester Whittemore; step-son, John Whittemore; brother, William Melvin Kanoy; sisters, Madge Rich and Nellie Gorski; and daughters-in-law, Betty Trollinger and Doris Whittemore.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons; Joseph Carl "J.C." Trollinger and wife Jan, William Thomas Trollinger and wife Brenda, and Phillip Ronald Trollinger and wife Randi, all of Greensboro; step-son, Richard Whittemore and wife Barbara of Greensboro; sister, Kathryn Snyder of Virginia; brother, Jack Kanoy and wife Harriet of Greensboro; sister-in-law, Jackie Kanoy of Morganton, NC; grandchildren, Trisha Chilco and husband David, Jarrett Trollinger and wife Sherry, Tonya Myers and husband Thomas, Ashley Black and husband Jeremy, Jenny Chilton and husband Gary; Carol Spangler and husband Scott; and Dickie Whittemore; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Wednesday evening February 29, 2012, at the funeral home and other times at J.C. and Jan Trollinger's home. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the funeral, from 1 until 2 pm on Thursday.
